สะพานพระราม 9 หรือที่รู้จักกันทั่วไปในนาม สะพานขึง เป็นสะพานเสาขึงระนาบเดี่ยวแห่งแรกของประเทศไทย พระบาทสมเด็จพระบรมชนกาธิเบศร มหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช บรมนาถบพิตรพระราชทานชื่อสะพานพระราม 9 เพื่อเป็นสิริมงคลเนื่องในวโรกาสมหามงคลเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา 60 พรรษา ปี พ.ศ. 2530
สะพานพระราม 9 เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของทางพิเศษเฉลิมมหานคร สายดาวคะนอง-ท่าเรือ มีลักษณะเป็นสะพานชนิด Single Plane Fan Type Cable-Stayed Bridge หรือสะพานขึงโดยใช้สายเคเบิลขนาดใหญ่ขึงเป็นระนาบเดี่ยวไว้กับเสาสูงของสะพานเพื่อรับ น้ำหนักของสะพาน เริ่มดำเนินการก่อสร้าง เมื่อวันที่ 1 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2527 เปิดให้บริการเมื่อวันที่ 22 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2530
